Monty Python’s Flying Circus
Monty Python’s Flying Circus is a sketch comedy series that originally aired on the BBC from 1969 to 1974. It is widely regarded as one of the most popular sketch comedy series ever, with a cast that became famous internationally for their unique, even surreal brand of British humor.
The “Pythons” included John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam. The team was responsible for writing and performing the material, and retained almost complete creative control over the content of the show. The episodes were unpredictable in their content, and flowed with a stream of consciousness style that has often been imitated in years since – but never bettered.
Though the TV series ended in 1974, five feature-length films were produced by the Monty Python team over the next decade. The series and films have been remastered and released on DVD for a new generation of Python fans to discover things like The Lumberjack Song, The Parrot Sketch, and “It’s only a flesh wound!”
